Reflection Blog Post

My favorite Projects during the semester would have to be the audio story and the video story. I really liked the audio story cause I got to interact with someone new and hear a little about their own story. I really liked that I was able to get more familiar with audio editing on adobe so that it would be useful for me in the future when I go on to do more interviews or recordings. With the video story I enjoyed that I was able to create my own little clip and demonstrate what my topic was on. Then I liked how I was able to get familiar with adobe premiere pro and edit my clips and also include titles and effects into the movie. This made it useful in case in the future I want to create more clips and put them on YouTube.

The skills I learned that I believe I will use in the future are the premiere pro skills with editing videos to make them into movie types.

A career path that I see in my future is doing PR for a sports organization or PR for a company like Nike. The projects that help me choose the path is the video project (unit 4) because I can see that helping me make videos for PR and help me to a successful career.

I believe I learned every skill that I needed to learn in this course in order to set me up for success in the future. All the digital skills with adobe made me more familiar with the programs that will eventually come in handy later in life.

I did not use or find any websites or resources outside that class that would have be useful to me.

Thank you to the TA and Instructors for teaching this useful and amazing class. I’ve learned more about media then I knew before. This is one of my favorite classes of the semesters.

Final Video Story

Becoming an athlete at a young age it seemed to me that sports was all fun and games, especially at a pee wee level. Until I got into high school. That’s where my fitness journey began. Coming into high school and playing at the high school level my freshman year I was not the biggest or strongest, not close to being one. Once our coach started our winter workouts, I remember the uncomfortable feeling of not knowing much on how to do properly weight lift. I was criticized for how my form was during lifts and sometimes criticized for not pushing myself harder past my limits to lift more weight. Once I eventually got the hang of all that, I never wanted to see someone in my shoes. That’s where I got inspired to create this video.

Every day I see new faces in the gym day in and day out. Some of those new faces are beginners with fitness and have the motivation to transform their bodies but they just don’t know where to begin or what things that can do. I created this video story of one of my leg day routines for those beginners to follow. This video is to give them an idea and guide of what exercises they can work out for their legs and core. Sometimes when first starting off weight lifting people usually prefer to be on their own so that they aren’t judge by a trainer or their lifting partner. That’s where the video will come in handy for those who choose to be independent and work alone. This is just a stepping stone for the people that don’t know where to being and don’t know what workouts to do.

Throughout this unit, it has made it easier to demonstrate my topic of fitness through clips and videos because visually seeing a lifestyle can really put someone in a different perspective. After recording the initial video and editing it, I specially wanted to put in an order and routine that the workout should be done. That way it was easy to follow. My peers liked the way the video transitioned from clip to clip showing each workout and how the ending faded into a stop. Some feedback I received was maybe adding music into the background, which I thought about, but I thought it would be more beneficial to have gym background noise to fit the subject. Without some of the feedback I couldn’t have make this project any better. I hope you enjoy being part of my fitness journey and continue to work hard towards whatever goals are set for yourself.

When it is your first time getting in the routine of fitness and weight lifting, it’s difficult to find that starting point to get that motivation and follow a strict workout routine. I designed this video post to allow some of my peers who are looking to get started in the fitness lifestyle a template to follow in order for them to get started. When working out, especially for beginners, most don’t know what exercises to do and what the lift benefits to the body. Instead of spending monthly payments on trainers to walk you through the same repetitive motions, this video allows those who want to be independent and workout alone to see the demonstrations and begin to copy the workout for that day. I believe that this benefits those who are just getting familiar with the fitness lifestyle because they are able to go at their own pace. These video demonstrations also become helpful to those working out because they are capable to do a variety of different workouts that they have never done or tried before. Being around NFL and division 1 athletes for an extended period of time, seeing them post their workout videos to the public so that the public is able to do workouts like the pros and D1 athletes do inspired me to post my videos so that my peers are inspired by me and want to follow my workout routines. Throughout the video I broke down every individual workout to demonstrate how it is properly performed. I made sure that each clip transitioned to the order of what the workout is in from start to finish. Using adobe premium pro was very useful throughout the video making process because it made everything run more smoothly and made it feel like a professional video. I hope you all enjoy the workout video and continue to follow my fitness journey!

Raw Footage & Storyboard

We see many people in the gym constantly day in and day out, some of those people are experts at what they do with weight lifting and training because of the fact they have been doing it for an extent amount of time. Others being beginners, picking up and pushing weights for the first time can be a challenge especially if they don’t have a solid workout routine that they can follow. Here in this video I have a provided a legs and abs workout routine that not only can beginners follow but for anyone who would like to try new exercises that they have yet to try.

Starting off with the “foam roller” roll out your whole body starting from your back all the way down to your calves. This is to help loosen up the muscles and break down bad blood to get the blood flowing. Now after stretching out and getting our body loosened up first exercise that we start off with is the “back squat”. This targets your glutes, hamstrings, and quads. What some people don’t know is that it also activates your core muscles (abs) so that you are able to hold whatever weight you have upright. After squat the next muscle group we want to target is our calves. Our calves are just as important as any other muscle group. Calves help with this like speed and circulation of our blood in our legs.

Now that we have done isolating squats and calf raises, it is time to do a collaboration of both workouts as we seen with single leg presses superset with more calf raises. This is just to continue working those muscle groups, building the muscular endurance and volume. After 4-6 sets of each leg workout we want to go ahead and target our mid-section by doing a variety of ab workouts.

First, we start off with straight leg raises, these will target your lower abdomen building a stronger core. Abs should be about 4 sets of failure (as many as you can do). Then we go into weighted knee tucks. This exercise targets the lower core muscles mostly but at the same time actives the entire core section by having to stay in one place and not swinging back and forth.

Finally, for abs we want to make sure to hit the top half of the abdominal section. For that we want to take an exercise ball and simply do crunches for as many reps until you cannot do anymore, getting a far range of moving back and forth building the tension and squeezing the muscle. A stronger core will help develop better balance and a stronger body.

To finish off the workout we want to get our cardio in as well as draining out the lactic acid that is built up in our body. To do so we can do any type of cardio machine, but for this I choose the stair climber to release the lactic acid from my legs but at the same time help with my endurance.

Continue to push your body past its limits and results will show for themselves.

Fitness plays an important role in my everyday life just by keeping me active and busy. Whether it be physically working out by lifting weights and running or developing healthy eating habits by not eating foods that could potentially be very unhealthy for my body. Fitness to me is more than just a hobby to do for fun, fitness is an activity that could impact personal lives or even others for the better.

I personally know what motivated me to start getting into the fitness lifestyle and the benefits that it would give me just by continuing along with staying healthy and fit, so for my audio story I wanted to hear from another person’s perspective on what brought them into the fitness lifestyle and hear what goals and results they expect to see themselves with.

Having an interview with Evan Slate, a 23-year-old, Junior at WSU, it was nice to see where he started from and what motivates him to achieve the goals he set for himself later in life. Hearing the goals and routines Evan has for himself and the way he goes about with his fitness journey, it was noticeable to me that there were many differences between the goals I had for myself and what he has for himself. I went on to ask Evan the same questions I personally asked myself when I first being getting heavily into fitness to see how similar they would be or compared how different they are.

After recording the rough draft and having my peers listening to it as well as critique it to help me improve my adobe skills, they suggested that I fixed some of the cut clips to make the interview sound smoother and have better flow rather than some of the words cut off and skipped into the next subject. So, what I did for the final draft was uncut all of the clips and cut where it would have a better transition to the next question and answer.

I hope you all enjoy the final audio, as you hear the behind the scene story of Evan Slate.

The main objective of my story of getting more deeply involved in fitness comes from my background of being heavily active in sports and weight training. I personally know what motivated to start getting into the fitness lifestyle and the benefits that it would give me just by continuing along with staying healthy and fit, so for my draft story I wanted to hear from another person’s perspective on what brought them into the fitness lifestyle and hear what goals and results they expect to see themselves with.

I believe it is important to hear from another perspective on why they do or chose to do the things that they do because not all reasons to those actions are going to be similar to one another. Something that I am destined to do as I continue on with the fitness journey is to motivate others to join along and help them when they don’t know where to begin.

I come from a very big family and I was the first to begin playing sports. Once I started playing sports I knew it was important to be the healthiest I could possibly be. If that meant I couldn’t eat fast food when the rest of my family did, then so be it. I had to go down a different path to set that example of if you want to look right and be healthy, you have to get rid of bad unhealthy habits.

So far in my journey I have impacted multiple people’s lives helping them get where they want to be cause they have witness seeing my results and it has pushed them to also follow along. So, having an interview with Evan, it was nice to see where he started from and what motivates him to achieve the goals he set for himself later in life.

I am aiming for an edited interview audio story with narration.

Final Logo Project

The design process to my logo was to incorporate the first initial of my last name with the text “sports performance” outlining or over it. In the initial draft logo project, I was looking to use more of the adobe illustrator tools and shapes to create my logo but found it more difficult to come up with a 3D letter to symbolize “Barefield Sports Performance”. With the critiques and help from my peers, I decided to use the text tool and insert the letter “B” and make it into a 3D letter itself with a shadow drop and different text font. The revisions to my final logo post consisted of having the “Sports Performance” text at the bottom of the letter so that it did not seem to be congested with the main focus of what the logo is. Some things that I also incorporated into the logo was a brief description on the left-hand side of what my logo’s purpose is and what the business is meant for. My original idea to the logo to make it known the purpose is for sports performance was to have the background of the main logo be something like a football to make it look as if the logo was printed on the side of a football. Another alternative to the logo was to include some kind of imagery of workout equipment like a barbell. The final decision and touches that I made with my final logo project were creating a unique 3D letter and have the description at the bottom of the letter to make it more readable. I was inspired to add more detail to the design so having the word descriptions included next to the logo helps give a better understanding to those looking at the logo and answering any questions they had about what “Barefield Sports Performance” is.

Draft Logo

My inspiration for this draft logo design is to incorporate my last name into the company Identity that I have developed. Instead of spelling out my whole last name, I wanted to be creative by having the first letter of my last as the main focus then proceeding to include the text on top of the background. I was inspired by this kind of design because of the fact other sports performance companies all have similar designs to their logos. My main objective for the logo is to have a 3D letter ‘B’ and insert the sports performance text in between the letter ‘B’. Having a company brand/logo that includes my first initial to my last name makes it known that it is my company but not very flashy that it has to do with my last name. What I want my company logo to provide is a vision for all athletes and those to want to get into good shape to come workout at business knowing that they can receive great workout advice as well as good results. The logo is to give off the vibe that the company is only about workout performance to help athletes and others who look to have a better performance in training. I first wanted to have a football drawn behind the “B”, but it would seem as if I only wanted to work with football athletes. So, if I were to include some kind of weight bar into the background is could come off as more of a workout performance company. There is more work that I want to improve on this logo to make it stand out and be more efficient to my brand as well as my project. I look forward to having me peers give me advice on what I could do to better this project.
